The Filmmaking Program

Duration of Studies: 4.5 Years (9 Semesters)

The Sam Spiegel Film & Television School is small, in terms of physical size and student body volume. The cozy "campus" and very dynamic staff assure that every student is granted individual attention. The select group of candidates accepted each year to the School is bestowed maximum benefits of financial and human resources to develop their personal and professional capabilities.

While the School is not involved in the content of the student's creations, it sets clear production and time requirements for each stage of development, granting extensive opportunities to work within a and a broad spectrum of student voices. The fundamental conditions for participating in this program are a high level of dependability, honesty, intellectual and emotional candidness; the commitment to meet assignment deadlines, develop a personal, one-time voice, and communicate with a target audience; the ability to work as part of a team, and to help others and to receive help. Throughout all their years at the Sam Spiegel School, students are required to act not only for their own benefit, but for the benefit of their fellow classmates and academic colleagues.

The Short Film as a Genre stands at the forefront of the School's attention. This choice enables the definition of film production in time and in space, and the ability to give sufficient filming time and financial backing for a number of projects. Along with their own projects, even first-year students take part in student productions of all years and all programs. This hands-on approach allows students to acquire professional skills, experience and training in all facets of film and television production.

At the line between an educational institution and "show business", the School's students, teachers and staff work together to acquire self-confidence, professional identity and the personal voice of each and every student. We are confident in our approach. We believe in the cumulative ability of our students and graduates to forge additional new frontiers in the Israeli cinema.
